The Owl’s Nest developed out of a desire to gather women who are interested in building community, sharing techniques and interrogating their own work in partnership with others. We intend for this to be an annual retreat that develops ongoing connection and supports reflective practice among women in the field who are working professionally and employing various techniques to engage communities through the arts.
The retreat will take place at a Girl Scout Camp in the Texas Hill Country, about 40 miles outside of Austin, TX. We chose Camp Texlake because it provides a relaxing, natural environment and is very affordable. We hope that this weekend feels more like camp than conference, more like building community than networking and more like retreat and rejuvenation than work.
The Owl’s Nest retreat will offer an opportunity for each participant to bring a challenge, question, concern or new practice to the table for group devising and development. As well, each participant is invited to take part in the flow of the weekend through leading a devising or warmup activity.
